Experienced corporate lawyer Nusrat Qureishi has joined the CooperBurnett Corporate and Commercial team as a Senior Associate.

Experienced corporate lawyer Nusrat Qureishi has joined the CooperBurnett Corporate and Commercial team as a Senior Associate. She was most recently with another local law firm and has worked in the City too, building up wide experience and expertise in corporate law.

“My approach to working with corporates is a holistic one,” says Nusrat. “I like to build long-term relationships with clients and support them through the whole lifecycle of their business. Over the past few years, I have helped businesses to manage all their corporate affairs, from high value M&A work and share acquisitions and disposals, to general corporate advisory work.”

She continues: “I have supported a wide range of businesses from both private and public companies to start ups, family businesses and private individuals who are looking to take the next step to realise their strategic objectives, whether it be the raising of finance, acquisition or an exit strategy, or just ensuring that their business has in place robust corporate structures.”

Nusrat says that she was aware of CooperBurnett’s excellent reputation for its corporate and commercial work.

“In addition, I knew the high regard in which Partner Victoria Sampson is held,” she says. “Also, when I came for my interview, I was immediately aware of the positive atmosphere here and it gave me a good feeling. I was also attracted by the ‘flat structure’ which exists at CooperBurnett. Since I’ve been here, I’ve also noticed that everyone works together for the ‘team’ and a common interest, rather than being in it for themselves and that’s something which really matters to me.”

Nusrat says that she ‘always wanted to be a lawyer’.

“When I was at school, I had a keen interest in politics and dreamt of joining the United Nations; I wanted to change the world,” she says. “More simply though, I wanted to help people and I’ve found that, through corporate law, I am able to do that.”

Nusrat adds: “Right from the beginning of my training contract, I was drawn to corporate law and I pride myself on being able to engage with people at every level of a company and get on with everyone. I like to find out about a company’s strategy and help to find solutions which work.”

When she’s not at work, Nusrat enjoys spending time with her family, as well as going to the cinema and the theatre. She’s also a keen member of a local gym in Tunbridge Wells, where she had already met a couple of members of the CooperBurnett team who also take part in classes there.

“They were so friendly, which made me think that CooperBurnett must be a good place to work,” she says.

Nusrat also enjoys mentoring younger lawyers and champions those returning to the profession after a career break.

“We are really happy to have Nusrat join our Corporate and Commercial team here at CooperBurnett,” says Victoria Sampson, Partner and Head of Corporate and Commercial Services at CooperBurnett. “She brings a wide range of experience and we know she’ll be a real asset.”
