“Our business community in Tunbridge Wells always looks forward to the St George’s Day lunch and we knew how much Pickering depended on it, so we decided to do some fundraising for this wonderful charity ourselves,” says Victoria Sampson from CooperBurnett, who launched enTWine last year, alongside Lynne Gadsden from Grovewood Wealth Management and Pam Loch from Loch Associates Group.
The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre was established nearly 20 years ago by a group of cancer patients, who recognised the need for somewhere to go, to relax and talk with others in a similar situation. They also realised that families, friends and carers needed a place to find information and talk freely, without burdening the patient or each other.
The fundraising at the event – which took place on Zoom - included a raffle, a heads and tails game and an auction.
Polly Taylor, founder of Pickering, spoke at the event and said the fundraising had really ‘raised the spirits’ of her team, who are all volunteers.
“Polly gave such an inspiring and moving talk about the support Pickering gives not only to the person with cancer but to the whole circle of people surrounding them, including family and friends,” says Victoria. “It’s a charity which we know is very close to the hearts of people in this town and we are so pleased we could support them in this way.”
At the beginning of the meeting, Victoria was surprised with a bottle of Champagne to commemorate her 25th anniversary with CooperBurnett the following day.
