Abigail has joined our Family department, where she is a Legal Secretary/Assistant to Partner Gemma Gillespie. Before joining the firm, Abigail worked in a local authority role as a legal secretary in Child Protection.
“We worked at a very fast pace due to the high volume of work and I was working with a number of solicitors there, so I do feel I am good at time management and working well under pressure,” she explains. “I have also learnt that teamwork is everything. Gemma and I work as a team to provide the best possible service. This makes a huge difference - not only our clients, but for efficiency and morale in the workplace.”
Abigail says that she’s finding CooperBurnett an enjoyable place to work.
“The firm regularly makes time for events outside the working day, such as meals, drinks, walks and charity events - which I believe is important, especially coming out of lockdown,” she explains.
Abigail didn’t imagine she’d end up in law when she was at school.
“I aspired to be an actress or work in theatres,” she says. “However, I had developed an interest in law, as I always loved getting into healthy debates with family about goings on in the world. I never imagined though that I would work in family law. I like knowing that we are helping people in their time of need and I love learning new things every day.”
In her spare time, Abigail is very creative and enjoys making things like candles, as well as keeping fit, going to the gym and doing yoga. She also has a fascination for astronomy and, when’s there a clear night sky, can be found stargazing.
Partner Gemma Gillespie adds: “Abbie has been extremely helpful with her excellent IT skills and attention to detail. In addition, her upbeat and lovely warm personality means she’s able to put clients’ very quickly at ease. I have loved having her as part of our team from day one and so have our clients.”
