Demelza Hospice Care for Children provides specialist care and emotional support for babies, children and young people with serious or terminal conditions and their loved ones, so they can enjoy their time together as a family, for as long as they have. Every year its work is a lifeline to over 600 babies, children and young people and 4,000 individual family members across the South East of England.
When a family desperately needs support, Demelza can give them the time, space and attention to cope. From diagnosis, for as long as they are needed, it delivers specialist care with compassion. If a family chooses for their child to die at Demelza, they make sure they have the support they need to focus on loving each other and make lasting memories.
Demelza’s ethos is to work for the whole family – parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents and other loved ones – because the whole family is integral to a child’s life.
CooperBurnett involves the whole team when selecting a charity to support. Suggestions are sought, a short list is created and a vote is taken. Once a charity is chosen, the firm’s charity committee, consisting of Katie Hilsdon, Gareth Warner and Lisa Connolly, drives the fundraising.
“Supporting a charity has become key to our philosophy at CooperBurnett and it’s been something which has brought us together more closely as a team over the years,” says Victoria Sampson, Partner and Head of Corporate and Commercial Services at CooperBurnett. “We recognise the enormous support which Demelza gives families and we are excited about how our fundraising will make a difference to the work it does.”
Adds Joseph Oates, Partner at CooperBurnett: “Our charity committee is busy thinking of our next big challenge to raise vital funds for and awareness about Demelza. We understand that there are plans afoot to do something exciting in 2023! Over recent years we’ve completed the Three Peaks Challenge and cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours, so watch this space.”
