Our Private Client team – Partners Sarah Strong and Katie Gillam and Associate Solicitor Katie Hancock – held another ‘myth busting’ seminar on Wednesday 21 February, which was attended by guests including accountants, financial advisors, investment managers and business managers. The team spoke about the issues surrounding the grounds on which a Will could be challenged and the steps they would take with clients when drafting Wills to prevent this.
Sarah Strong spoke about the measures the Private Client team would put in place to try to ensure the validity of a Will against challenges for a lack of capacity, a lack of knowledge and approval of the contents of the Will and undue influence. Katie Hancock then spoke about claims that can be made against an estate by family members or dependants and again, how our team try to guard against this.
Partner Joseph Oates, head of our Contentious department, was also on hand to discuss dealing with claims against an estate from a contentious probate perspective.
The feedback was positive and included:
“Thank you for the presentation, I thought there was some really good points covered that I could use with clients.”
“Thank you for such a useful presentation this afternoon.”
